Interrupt any YouTube clip (e.g. a political one) with a nuclear test explosion clip. Or, generally, string together any number of clips.
Strangebutton is a work of satire meant to raise awareness of the threat of nuclear war during the US election season. For more on that threat, see (e.g.) The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
Smoothest on desktop, smoother on Android than iPad. iPhone support coming with iOS 10 (Autumn 2016). YouTube can be fickle and may not accurately honor starting times.
The word "StrangeButton" first appears in the "MyGUI" project on github. Non-commercial.
Strangebutton plays clips from existing YouTube videos back to back, each given a start and end time in seconds in the original video.
Optionally, a nuke-like white flash effect is played at the end of each clip leading into the next.
For each row starting with "Video", pick a clip from the "Preset" dropdown to populate the video ID and start/end seconds, or enter these fields directly.
A YouTube video's ID is at the end of its URL, which you can paste in directly in "Video ID or URL" to have the ID extracted. Please be frugal with any content that you haven't produced.
Start and end times are in seconds, and may be entered with h for hours and m for minutes embedded e.g. "1h20m5" for 4805 seconds. A blank start/end time corresponds to 0 seconds and the video end time.
Check "Flash" for a white flash bridging this clip and the next. Press "+" to insert a new blank clip, or "x" to delete a clip.
The browser address bar and "New URL" field are updated as clips are edited. Press "Shorten" for a bit.ly version of the current URL.
After editing, press the red strangebutton to see the results, or refresh the browser.
To interrupt a video of your choice (e.g. a political one) with a nuke, enter its YouTube URL and start/end times in the first row that starts with "Video". Then pick a nuclear preset clip from the dropdown in the second row, and press the big red button.
